Mural Competition – Artist Agreement & Competition Terms
Thank you for entering our Mural Competition!
Before submitting your artwork, please read the following Artist Agreement and Competition Terms carefully. By entering the competition, you confirm that you understand and agree to the terms below.
The competition is open to anyone.
You do not need to be a professional artist to enter, and there is no requirement for the submitted artwork to have been created specifically for this competition.
You may submit:
Your submitted artwork will be used as the basis for the peer-voted competition.
The artwork you submit does not need to be an exact representation of the final mural you paint if you win. We understand that an artwork may need to be adapted to suit the mural format, materials, dimensions and physical space.
However, the final artwork must remain substantially similar in concept, style and overall design to the artwork submitted for voting.
The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that the artwork being voted on by the public is representative of the artwork that will ultimately be produced.
We reserve the right to discuss reasonable adjustments with the winning artist where required to make the artwork suitable for the supplied mural canvas and physical location.
This is a peer-voted competition.
Artists will submit their artwork and the public/peers will vote on the submitted entries.
The artwork receiving the relevant number of votes will determine the first, second and third place winners.
Please ensure that the artwork you submit is genuinely representative of the work you intend to produce should you win.
There are three prizes:
🥇 First Prize
$2,000 cash prize
The first-place winner will also be given the opportunity to create a large-scale mural for display in our outdoor area.
The mural will be located on the exterior wall area opposite Lennox Street.
🥈 Second Prize
$1,000 cash prize
The second-place winner will also be given the opportunity to create a mural for display in our outdoor area/beer garden.
The mural will be located on the exterior wall area opposite Eliza Street.
🥉 Third Prize
$500 cash prize
The third-place winner will have their submitted artwork reproduced on 2,000 venue coasters, which will be produced and used at the venue.
There are two mural spaces available for the first and second prize winners.
First Prize – Lennox Street Wall
The finished artwork area will be:
160cm wide x 90cm high
This is the larger mural located in the outdoor/smoking area opposite Lennox Street.
Second Prize – Eliza Street Wall
The finished artwork area will be:
100cm wide x 70cm high
This mural will be located in the outdoor/smoking area opposite Eliza Street.
Important: Artwork Frame
Both mural artworks will include a 10cm frame/border around the artwork.
Artists should therefore take the frame/border into consideration when designing their final artwork.
The winning artists will not paint directly onto the venue’s building or wall.
The venue will provide a blank plywood canvas with a wooden frame for each of the two mural installations.
The winning artists will paint their artwork onto the supplied plywood canvas.
Once completed, the venue will arrange for the finished artwork to be installed in the relevant outdoor location.
The venue will provide and pay for the basic supplies required to complete the murals, including:
Artists are welcome to discuss any specific material requirements with the venue before commencing their mural.
Any additional or specialised materials outside of the agreed supplies must be approved by the venue before being purchased.
The winning artist is responsible for completing their mural artwork in accordance with the agreed design and within the agreed timeframe.
The venue may work with the artist to make reasonable adjustments to the artwork where required due to:
Any such adjustments will be discussed with the artist wherever reasonably possible.
By entering the competition, you confirm that the artwork you submit is your own original work, or that you have the necessary rights and permissions to submit and reproduce it.
You must not submit artwork that:
You remain the copyright owner of your artwork unless otherwise agreed in writing.
By entering, you give the venue permission to reproduce and display your submitted artwork for the purposes of promoting, administering and running the competition.
For the winning artworks, you also agree that the venue may photograph, reproduce and share images of the completed artwork for venue, competition and promotional purposes.
As the artwork will be displayed in a public-facing area of a licensed venue, all submitted and final artwork must be appropriate for public display.
The venue reserves the right to reject or remove artwork that contains content that is unlawful, discriminatory, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, defamatory, or otherwise unsuitable for display at the venue.
The venue will agree on a suitable timeframe with each mural winner for completion of their artwork.
The venue will be responsible for providing the mural canvas and arranging its installation.
The artist is responsible for completing the artwork to an agreed standard and within the agreed timeframe.
